And who determines what Lott was thinking when he made his remarks? The thought police in the democrat party? The leftist news media?? Geez....

Yes, he did. That was the convention where the NAACP and their minions raised holy hell because Bush didn't attend. Just imagine the reception he should have gotten.
And I don't recall ANY of the press giving Bond any trouble at all about those remarks.

Well if it was Education... I only know because I used to work for the AZ Dept of Education and now I work for Juvenile Corrections and we get Ed Title 1 funds because we educate special needs kids ...

I keep reading that WE are reading something into Lott's comments, but I have yet to see anybody explain WHY they weren't exactly what they appear to be.

Julian was damn effective on CNN Howlin. Facts are facts. What do you make of this excerpt of a Howard Fineman piece on MSNBC's website?
" The ensuing controversy gathered force slowly, helped along by some of the most inept damage control since the Maginot Line was built. Lott first said, dismissively, that he was winging ituntil it was discovered that he had said the same thing 22 years earlier. Lott made this and other press appearances by phone while holed up with his wife on vacation in Key West, Fla. His aides assured White House officials that he would utter the key words segregation is immoral on Larry King, but he somehow forgot to do so. Bush went ballistic at this point. He also heard that GOP Sen. Chuck Hagel was about to denounce Lott. The president ordered up a harsh condemnation of Lotts remarks. Senator Lott has apologized, and rightly so, a stern-visaged Bush said. Lott got the message, and scheduled his full-dress press conferencewith the proper wording includedfor the following day. "
It makes it sound that Lott only condemned segregation because Bush made him do so, and when Lott proved incorrigible, he had to be spanked to do it. That is just ducky. Ya, Fineman is not a "friend," but what if this story is true?

and those that stood up for the WH against the commie naacp is also standing up for Lott. And now this is how they are paid back by Bush and Rove. Yep that will do it.

People can change... Heck there's even hope for Clinton and his harrassment of women ...

Well at least that is a way for Lott to save face and possibly stay in the Senate. It really all depends upon how it's handled within the Senate and what the Senators choose to do. Based upon what I'm reading here from many of the so called conservative Republlicans, they want to hand Lott his head on a platter. If that mentality continues then imo opinion Lott has not choice but to resign and get away from the party that holds him in such contempt. Any person with any amount of self respect would leave, I believe. It appears Lott is despised by many on this forum.

That quote is one more example of how our enemies are overextending their play here. Their hubris is at least equal to Lott's.
If we simply do the right thing and fight back aggressively and effectively, this whole thing is going to end up a net plus for the GOP over time.
The White House is playing their cards beautifully.

Do you know what a Judge is and how they get appointed.
Hint their name needs to be voted on. Judges are often much more important than the law.
This is a lie we told when the RATS stole the Senate from us.
With Tom conventional wisdom is stood on it's head anyway. He lost the Senate but kept his seat. He cares nothing about being fair or the country only about Liberalism.

Exactly. They cannot ALL be lying; granted they put their "spin" on the stories, but so do "our" people.
BTW, I just watched Tony Snow live on Fox with Bill Sammon and Juan Williams.
Juan and Sammon both said that there WAS a 90 minute conference call, and that Mitch McConnell was the one who said that Lott had threatened to resign if he was removed.
Yet another story to put in the pot.
I saw Howard Finnman on MSNBC and something else -- maybe Fox -- telling that same story. It sounds plausible to me; Lott is playing for his life now.

Chaffee has come out in support of Lott... Hmmmm... so if the Republicans dump Lott, perhaps this will give Chaffee the reason to jump ship and become an independent.
To: rightwing2
The major difference between the two??
Lott has more hair; Nickles has more cajones. Little Tommy Daschle will not be able to push around Nickles as he did the limp-wristed light-loafered pom-pon twirling cheerleader.

You need to lighten up
JUST a bit on the people who don't agree with you.
I surely haven't see Trent Lott stand up to the NAACP, have you?

Well what I read is that McConnell said he was just giving a history lesson. Frankly, my gut tells me that Lott has not threatened to resign.

Yes it is. This is the type of crap I expect to see on the DU board, not Free Republic.

People
can change, but what are we to think now that we look at the sum total of Lott's record, whether we consciously ignored it before or not.
Do you think he's changed? As someone else pointed out -- Torie maybe -- Lott did not EVER denouce the CCC until Friday.
