His voting record is solid. he is not a racist. Why is he having problems on the right then? It's his LEADING record. He is, and has been a weak leader.
To: TLBSHOW
Yes, he did stand up to them and all Lott had to do was properly follow up. He failed to do that. He held a weak press conference and then disappeared. Oh, he's going to be on BET tonight, but where was he this morning? Why wasn't he out there fending off questions himself instead of expecting the senators to carry his water for him?
Bush should NOT come down on Lott's side because it's not his decision. It's for the senate republicans to decide.
If Lott had appeared before the TV cameras the first couple of days and handled this thing properly it would have been a dead issue. The race baiters would have been silenced, but did he do that? Oh no, he was on VACATION and that was too important to him. Just like not calling a vote in November on Homeland Security was not important enough for him, or the Terrorist Insurance bill that was holding up thousands of building contracts. Within days of it's passing the company I work for got the go ahead on three projects that had been put on hold. We immediately started calling men back to work.
Bush has given Lott plenty of chances and this fiasco has absolutely nothing to do with Bush, or racism for that matter either.

Why would Lott care about Rudman if he was gone? Maybe I'm not getting the connection here? And why would the WH want Rudman knowing about his support of McCain?
To: Rye
Let's see.....Rove supports Frist to replace Lott. Frist is clearly anti-gun. Rove also supported Riordan over Simon in CA, and Riordan is as anti-gun as Davis. This leads me to believe 2A rights are not the least bit important to Rove.

I don't accept anything Bill or Hillary Clinton says. It's all been proven too many times to be lies. What has that got to do with Trent Lott?

Wow. For a party in power of both houses, the presidency, and SCOTUS...republicans surely seem to be having a hard time of it.Geez, its times like these that make me proud that I'm a right-wing, pro-life, Christian voter and not a Republican party hack! The rats and the news media must be overflowing with joy over this whole fiasco! They have suckered the repubs yet again! Will they ever learn???
To: TLBSHOW
Kevin Martin, government and political affairs director of the African American Republican Leadership Council, said people were overreacting. "By no means was he endorsing segregation or anything like that," Martin said. "It was lighthearted. It was humorous." Martin said Lott wins 25 percent of the black vote in Mississippi, which he said couldn't happen if Lott were a racist.+
I agree that Lott is no racist although frankly his pro-segregationist record is starting to make me wonder about him. However, Lott's ability to lead the Senate Republicans has been irreparably damaged. He should go for that reason alone not to mention his caves to the Daschle Democrats.

As a Cowboy fan, when the Eagles play the Redskins I always hope for a scoreless tie and the team buses hit each other after the game!

Rickles would be perfect. He could use his influence to have his buddy Don Adams appointed to head the CIA.

Senator Nickles wouldn't have made this bold move without first counting votes. It looks like he will be the incoming Senate Majority Leader.
I hope you are right! I think Nickles knows that this is his best chance to restore conservative leadership to the Senate Republicans and God willing he will succeed.

The President does not like Warren Rudman from what I have heard. What is your point on him being appointed? I do know the 9-11 families, along with McCain are putting a great deal of pressure on Bush to name him to the commission. Rudman is a mccainiac and does not care for Bush. Please explain what your post means. Thanks.

Rove is the problem.

Supposedly Lindsay Graham. But they are saying Lott told the WHITE HOUSE that; I doubt they would have been on a conference call.

I know you're a lot smarter than me and if you don't get it, it makes me feel a little better about not getting either...
To: Howlin
Quoting Graham in the conference call? I guess we need to know if Graham was just speculating, or said he was repeating what Lott told him.
