Answer the question.

Hubris is what is going to get him
Agreed, however hubris in the truest sense is often reserved for classic tragic figures such as Odeipus Rex and a hole host of Greeks. Hubris is a word not often used today, and I am not sure that Trent deserves use of this word- what Trent did was stupider than hubris. He strikes me as arrogant and a second rate politician in a time when GWB as a first rtate politician has raised the bar for the Republican partry.

"If Nickles had not jumped offside, Lott may have come to the conclusion himself, before January 6."
The problem is the Republicans have already elected Lott as majority leader for a two year term...
To: sinkspur
I agreed with BuddhaBoy, on that same point. Bush would have condemned the remarks, as everyone with a brain would. However, once scolded, the right would have supported Lott as Majority Leader, IF he hadn't been so weak in the past.

Not after his lackluster performance today, same with McConnel. Nickles is a clear favorite.

You should stick to bartending. What have you done to get Republicans elected lately?

I would think he is writing his resignation at this very moment. Another bet, Boy? You said he'd be out this morning, after the morning shows. I'm still waiting.....nothing on the wires...
If you think he's going to quit now, after Nickles has thrown down a gauntlet, you're dreaming.
Nickles, once again, in an effort to advance himself, has jumped offside.
Mitch McConnell, reading between the lines in his interviews this morning, has told Nickles that Lott will not leave without a fight.
As long as Nickles has been in the Senate, you'd think he'd have learned patience by now.
This "silver bullet" is a misfire that will ensure that Don Nickles is never Majority Leader.

The idea was "floated", almost certainly, although indirectly, by Lott. It's his "Samson" defense.
To: Right_in_Virginia
You obviously don't know him. Senator Nickles always measures twice, cuts once.
We'll see, won't we?
To: sinkspur
You'll kick Trent Lott out the door because you are still pissed over impeachment! And, if he's branded a racist in the process, you could care less.
Tells what kind of party we have I guess! Gutless and liars!

Lott ought to take his licks and go sit in the corner.Exactly. The honorable thing would have been to take his lumps like a man and then try to redeem himself. Instead, he's tried to talk his way out of it like someone else we know...

How do you know that Nickles didn't receive a phone call telling him exactly what he should do this morning? It was yesterday afternoon, in an interview with George Stephanopoulous. And, no, this is typical Nickles. Act, then think.
Do you think your President is a traitor, Sink?
No.

"An American Insurrection: The Battle of Oxford, Mississippi, 1962," "As dawn came on Oct. 1, 1962 this has never really come out before, and there is a bit of a mystery to it there was a horrible riot that had just occurred. There were 375 injuries. There were hundreds of civilian arrests. There was pure chaos in the town of Oxford, on the campus of the University of Mississippi and this enormous military invasion of Oxford, Miss. Troops were dropping in by helicopter and convoy. What's one of the first things they do? They conduct a lightning surprise raid on the fraternity house that Trent Lott is the president of. They discover, and seize and remove from the fraternity, 24 weapons shotguns, rifles and a pistol.
... he (Lott) spent the night before rounding his boys up and keeping them out of trouble. So he was a leader that night. It's documented. "
He also worked for peaceful integration, of course that isn't something some want widely known at this time.

"I will wait to see how this plays out, but if the worst happens I'm gone from the GOP."
I think it better that both you and McCain leave the party because it sounds as if you both have already anyway... and I don't look forward to voting for McCain in 2004 just because I fear I have to to remain a Republican majority in the Senate.
To: kcvl
Frist has stated in the past he didn't want to serve past his current term. What gives?
To: sinkspur
No, it's a carpenter's expression. But in sinkspur's world, association is execution, which is a simpleton's thought process. It's not surprising that you would voice it.

I don't it matters what Republican Black office holders are saying anyway... In 2000 we got 9 percent of the black vote... does anyone think that by forcing Lott out it will get us anymore than that anyway?
