There's not going to be any battle. It's already a done deal, and Lott will resign this coming Friday afternoon. Most likely after 5PM. Two questions:
- Is this just a gut feeling, or do you have hard sources that we can link to?
- If this can be believed, is this resignation from the majority leadership office or from the Senate itself?

Some people's votes are more important to you than standing up for what is right instead of letting them use race as an issue AGAIN like they did with Judge Pickering and you didn't defend him either. Nobody can ever rightfully accuse Bubba-2 of having too much courage. He ain't gonna back ANYBODY if he thinks it would put him at any political risk. It's all about power, not right or wrong.

"Time for that hockey puck to go."

Is this really a good move if Trent Lott threatened to quit the senate if someone tried to challenge him? If that's Lott's attitude then we are better off without him. So we'll have gridlock until 2004, so be it.

As far as all this "pickin up his marbles and goin home" BS is concerned ... if I'm not mistaken he's up for election in 2004 and if this SOB is not man enough, patriot enough, and Republican enough to stick it our for a year, then f*** him and f*** his party! If he's even a piece of a man he'll take a backseat role for a year a and then reevaluate.

And if he does leave that'll be the last ship ever built in Mississippi.

You are mistaken......

I agree.
What will Lotts future demands be?
I am so old I can recall a Republican saying we once could use:
"Character Matters"

Nickles is not presidential material, now or ever. I bet you voiced the same opinion about Clinton :)

Freepers are ignoramusus about what the Majority Leader's job is all about. Fortunately we have plenty of BushBots and RINO's here to keep us straight.

I haven't seen anything so far from Nickles that makes me think he's got the same talents as GWB. How would you observe that, different forum, different power?
To: A2J
Trent Lott owes nothing to anyone but to those who elected him. How easily we forget....Oath of Office....Constitution, does anyone remember those things anymore?

if I'm not mistaken he's up for election in 2004 You are mistaken...... Yuh wanna drop the other shoe?

Yuh wanna drop the other shoe?
LOL... no other shoe to drop.... I was just saying you are mistaken about Lott being up for election in 2004. He's not as he's in the Class 1 senator group whose term ends Jan. 2007, Class II is 2003 and Class III is 2005. Lott was sworn in Jan. 2001 for his lastest term.

Is this consistent with your hypothesis that he just sees the Jim Crow era as no big whoop?
Personally, I don't see much separation between someone who supports it and someone who doesn't grasp (at this late day) that it was an evil stain on our history.
To: GraniteStateConservative
I don't think Lott is confortable about apologizing about the South's past, because that means he must apologize about his own past, and he isn't ashamed of his past, even though he accepts the present, and doesn't dwell on the good old days too much. My hypothesis given this piece has in short changed emphasis slightly. And if the piece is true, his Friday confession was an act, driven by fear and coercion, rather than conviction.

I find this an interesting comment since there hasn't been an election for the senate majority leader. Sorry, but the Lottster changed the rules abd held the causus vote in November.
