And the winner is...Tiny Tommy Dashole. Hardly. This is one briar patch we can live with being thrown into.
To switch analogies, the dark cloud is passing, and the silver lining is coming into full view.
Off to church....

If that's how Lott would respond, he would sink even deeper into ignominy. So you would expect a man whose position has been undermined by the people of his own party to remain in a position that helps them?
If I were Trent Lott and the Republicans kept up this mudslinging, I'd say, "See ya," and let them deal with the consequences of their arrogance.

Lott's Senate seat isn't up for election again until 2006. That's a long time to be benched in this game.
To: sinkspur
Lott can just announce he's not going seek election to Senate Majority Leader.

I am one of the blacks on our side. That explains a great deal.
To: sinkspur
Lott had 20 Senators on his side as of yesterday so all he needs is 6 more.
To: JZoback
Lott has stated he would quit the Senate if pushed from Senate leader. Got a source for that claim? I don't believe it's true.
To: BuddhaBoy
"Lott has never been a friend to conservatism, and I thank the rats for getting rid of him for us." I wouldn't uncork the champagne just yet.
There are moderates in the Republican party who will not be celebrating a conservative minority leader. Put an real conservative in the leadership position and count the hours it takes for either Chaffee or Snowe to bolt.
What a mess the unholy alliance of conservatives and RATS has created.

I don't won't to hear one person complain when Hillary takes the oath of office as President(dictator) of this country. NOT ONE! You won't. The smart ones will be in St. Thomas or hidden in Alaska/W.Canada, and the rest will be cowed into silence.

I agree %1000....i don't like the piling on of Lott....this may bite the dims when they kick out the appeaser.
To: sinkspur
Don Nickles is an honorable man as far as I know, but if he has some racial skeletons, then he will be gone too. I dont understand why your first notion is always to attack any conservative that doesnt agree with you.
I am rubbing this news in your face,(Sunday, Sunday, Sunday) because of all of your name calling against your fellow freepers, just because they didnt see things the way you do.

Don't forget the party infighting that cost Terrell the Louisiana Senate seat.

Complete baloney. Not necessarily. If Bush doesn't step in and stop this killing of Lott, the Republicans will walk away much weaker than they are and he will not see much, if any, of his proposals being passed.
Bush should do the right thing and affirm his support for Lott, who has unabashedly supported the president in supporting his legislation.

Kristol said that Nickles will have no problem getting enough signatures to call the leadership election and that Lott would not survive so the only question now is will Lott be replaced by solid conservative Don Nickles or more moderate Bill Frist. Life is good when Bill Frist is called a moderate.
To: chance33_98
As much as I hate to see Lott brought down on an issue like this, I WILL BE GLAD THAT SPINLESS JELLYFISH IS GONE.
BUT REMEMBER: the democraps will do this exact same thing to the next speaker (i.e. pick any slight error and blow it up to major proportions)
This had nothng to do with racism- this had everything to do with democraps damaging the next senate MAJORITY (hee hee hee) leader. And they will do it to the next one, and the next one...

ITS ALREADY STARTED THE LEFT IS IN FULL ACTION AGAINST THIS TRAITOR
NICKLES
It looks like Trent Lott's potential successor as Majority Leader, Don Nickles, has some questionable acts of his own, for which he should apologize.

The maddest i got at Lott was when he rebuffed the nickel a gallon federal gas tax cut...the repubs could have made political hay out of that but Lott nixed it and showed his true colors....hence no smaller govt, no loss of power/revenue.
To: A2J
So you would expect a man whose position has been undermined by the people of his own party to remain in a position that helps them? The person most responsible for undermining Trent Lott's position is Trent Lott. Would I expect him to remain in his position? Yes, if he is a man of courage who sincerely believes what he has been saying: that his comments were wrong and indefensible.
