KARACHI: Pakistani police said on Saturday they had detained three members of a radical Islamic militant group for the May suicide car-bombing that killed 11 French engineers and three Pakistanis here.
Three suspected members of Harkat ul-Mujahideen al-Alaami, an offshoot of the Harkat ul-Mujahideen, are expected to face police charges in the coming days over the bombing outside the Sheraton Hotel in Karachi.
"We believe the three suspects are involved in the Sheraton Hotel blast in which 11 Frenchmen and three Pakistanis were killed," an officer said.
He declined to identify the suspects.
"A police anti-terrorist wing is interrogating them and some weapons have also been recovered," he said.
On May 8 a car packed with explosives slammed into a bus carrying French engineers who were working for a submarine project in Pakistan.
Thirty-four people were also injured in one of the most devastating terrorist attacks in Pakistan, which has seen a string of bombings over the past year.
Police had said they were looking for three men who they believed bought a car a day before the blast and were involved in the terrorist attack. French intelligence officers have been assisting Pakistani police in the investigation.
In November five alleged members of the al-Alaami offshoot were charged with murder and terrorism over a June 14 bomb attack outside the US consulate in Karachi that killed 12 Pakistanis.
They put the props on the front so they backup faster.
