I thought it was one black gentleman on this march to support his ancestors who fought for the Confederacy.

Now, as I infer, have other people have gotten into the act and have now proclaimed this a "march for the Confederate cause"?

Oh, I see. Thanks for the links. Free country. If the guy wants to march around that's his business. I could care less if he does and even less if he does with the Confederate flag.

In the earlier thread Mr. Edgerton is cited as believing that reconstruction and northern post war policies did the most damage to race relations in the south.

To a large extent I agree with that and wonder what it portends for the late state of Yugoslavia and those western states so eager to demonize one group in order to 'protect' another.

How different might we see each other today had the South been helped instead of occupied?

My most fervent hope is that they DO reach Texas and that Mr. Edgerton uses his visit to remind them that a whole bunch of non-european Mexicans fought against Santa Anna.

(Oh, and that several indian tribes and bands fought on both sides in the war of seccession/invasion.)

Isn't it ironic how Washington D.C.'s Dept. of Education very recently almost decertified Grambling State's historically black college, even as it DID decertify Atlanta's Morris Brown one, and all the while some Grambling residents in the projects are angry at those waving symbols that implicitly propose alternatives to the self-perpetuating D.C. bureaucrats? One of the reasons Morris Brown college was decertified last week was that it supposedly does not have enough professors with advanced degrees. It's as if the teachers' unions and professors' lobbies have perpetuated their livelihoods by manipulating the corrupted and inefficient U.S. Dept. of Education to impose frivolous standards on others as well. And all the while tuition vouchers still don't exist, while blacks are conveniently kept down and dependent on the friendly federal government.

How much longer before we have such a Southern Republic? It seems like secession's being allowed in many places throughout the OTHER hemisphere, just not in ours. Quebec, Chiapas (Mexico) and the Southern Republic are a few recent examples of frustrated attempts to one degree or another. But we DID help Panama secede from Colombia a century ago.
