Lott's remarks have destroyed any credibility we were building with the black community.

Either we have credibility NOW with the black community, or we don't. George W. Bush is the face of the Republican party, not Trent Lott. He is doing what he needs to do to build whatever credibility needs to be built.

Plantation blacks would vote for Democrats if Trent Lott gave every one of them $1,000, and mopped their floors as penance for his remarks.

Blacks belong to a party that tolerates the racism of Jesse Jackson, but won't belong to a party where every stumble results in a royal grovel.

Does that make sense to you?

No it does not. Your assessment misses a significant segment of the black community. It also misses the point of having an approach which supports integrity. I'm more interested in my Party, the Republican Party, doing the right thing than doing the political thing. Sue me.
