It took three apologies to get to a close approximation of an apology.

For you, because you want him gone. I accepted his first apology.

There's a difference between apologizing and doing the right thing - in other words, paying for the damage you've done. Maybe you've heard of the word "justice?"

Most people accept apologies when mere words were uttered.

Trent Lott didn't burn down anybody's house, did he?

If he said something reprehensible, then he should be able to say an apology.

Most normal people accept that.

If somebody calls you an SOB, do you demand that they quit their job to show they're sorry?

Nobody's ever called me an SOB, but I bet you've heard it once or twice.

The intensity level is way down. Lotts appearance today let the air out of the balloon. Bush led, Lott followed.
