"Senate Republican leader Trent Lott tried to help Bob Jones University keep its federal tax-exempt status despite the school's policy prohibiting interracial dating two decades before his recent comments stirred a race controversy. "Racial discrimination does not always violate public policy," Lott, then a congressman from Mississippi, wrote in a 1981 friend of the court brief that unsuccessfully urged the U.S. Supreme Court to stop the Internal Revenue Service from stripping the university's tax exemption.

Bob Jones University is a private college who can do what they want. Bob Jones University did not ban blacks or any minorities from enrolling and attending nor did they discriminate against blacks or other minorities. Their interracial dating policy effected everyone of all races equally. Lott was correct when he said "Racial discrimination does not always violate public policy." There is nothing untrue about his statement.

I can't stand defending a spineless RINO like Trent Lott, but this racism crap is just stupid. It is disgusting that Republicans are teaming up with the Democrat dirtbags to destroy Lott over an alleged ThoughtCrime. Sen. Lott even mentioned how ex-Senator Simon (D) had told him HE WAS THERE and did not take Sen. Lotts statements in a derogatory manner.

The people crying the loudest about this, are a bunch of mamby pamby cry babies. It is shocking to me, that they even keep a job OR CAN DO THEIR JOBS if they have nothing better to do than to disect every WORD that anyone says. Where was their moral outrage when Sen. Byrd called some white people "White niggers"?

Where was the outrage when Sen. Levin said VERY simular remarks regarding Sen. Thurmonds run for Presidency back in Sept?

I have stated for a few years I'd like to see Sen. Lott step down as leader, or even minority leader when we were in the minority. But not for this. NO WAY!!

This is just the typical RACIST AGENDA that the Dems are doing to try to destroy the recent gains by the Republicans, and to destroy this President.

If we give in to this,.. we give them WAY more power than I ever care to see them have.
