Al Gore, the defeated presidential candidate in 2000, has indicated to friends he is to abandon the quest to become president..............
It seems that yet another count came in and I think he is finally getting the message that he lost.

Algore has the '04 nomination in the bag. If he wants it.

a decision of tragic proportions for the former vice-president. tragic proportions?!?! LOL!
To: MadIvan
ARE YOU SURE ABOUT THAT?
To: MadIvan
Mr Gore's expected withdrawal ... would mark a decision of tragic proportions for the former vice-president. As the vice president's continued candidacy would mark a decision of tragic proportions for the country.

Don't you just love it when someone who is almost universally reviled says "I'm willing to let someone else carry the torch"?
Come on, Al, go for it. Let's see you finally buried. Once and for all.

...and is said to have been distressed by press comment that he is reinventing himself once again in preparation for a presidential run.The jerk has "re-re-re-re-re-re-invented" himself so many times, I'm surprised he doesn't have fur on his palms and walking around blind.

I think Al Gore Sr. angled for the Vice Presidential nomination in 1956, but didn't get it, of course.
Gore Jr. can model himself on Richard Nixon, who skipped the next election and then came back to win 8 years after his initial defeat. Only Gore should have lost a statewide race in Tennessee this year to make the analogy closer...maybe the book tour is an equivalent humiliation. Of course Gore lacks Nixon's charm and charisma.

Several of Mr Gore's closest friends told The New York Times that he was inclined to retire to a private life of teaching and writing and had stopped cultivating not been able to fool the big-money donors and political kingmakers needed for another presidential run.

"No Al, just go away. Really. Now."Yes, and take "Mr. Ketchup" with you. Talk about doofus bookends!
Dumb 'n Dumber!

It is much better to have the moron around.....reminding us that he is supposedly one of the brightest dems to have ever graced this country.
To: MadIvan
Retiring to the hills of Tennessee, where there are towns called Difficult, Defeated and Nameless, would seem to be a prudent move. Hardy-har-har. Albore has retired to Tennessee's equivalent of Beverly Hills, a Nashville suburb called Belle Meade which is in the top ten most affluent communities in the country.

This screwball could have been president for 10 years if he would have done the honorable (Goldwater) thing and told his president to resign. The American people would have voted him in for two terms.
To: MadIvan
Mr Gore's childhood tendency to try to please was transformed into a curious adult habit of exaggerating his role in events. A polite way of saying he's full of $hit.

If he doesn't run, he will have time to write more best sellers like "Joined at the Heart."

Daddyw would sooooo disappointed! After all, he raised Albert to be the King, eh, the I mean the President. There is no justice in this world, I tell ya! Those damn voters!
To: MadIvan
As much as I dislike Gore, and I can't state how loathsome I find him, I still, nevertheless felt sorry for him because of his domineering old man who ran his life. Men should live their own lives and let their kids lead their's. And kids should have their own name too.

I suspect his attempts at "cultivating the big-money donors and political kingmakers" have meant a lot of messages left on answering machines and not many returned calls.
