Even before all of this came up, I always thought that Lott should be replaced. He tries too much to be all things to all people. He tries to get along too much. For all I know, he may be a racist, but I wouldn't doubt that he thought the same words uttered twenty years ago would work again in the same situation the other day. We have all said things that didn't come out the way they were intended, but I am assuming that what he said was rehearsed. In any case, this is a good opportunity for the Republicans to put someone in whose first thought of the day isn't what he/she can do to kiss Tom Daschle's backside.
