Usually a guy like Goffin finds a prospect, records a few songs, and then shops the demo around to likely buyers.
And I find it hard to believe that no one on American Idol had ever done a demo and shopped it around.
The definition of a professional recording artist is that they get paid to record their songs. I doubt a savvy record producer was paying an unknown kid to record for him when he was already paying the studio to record her.
