The Macker [DNC Chair McAuliffe] was due to add the following comments this morning at the Presidential Primary 'Politcs and Eggs' breakfast in Beford, New Hampshire.
'Given this pattern, [of Lott's repeated racial statements] it is simply not credible for Senator Lott to continue to assert that the comments that he made in support of Senator Thurmond's segregationist campaign were anything more 'than a poor choice of words.'
Sadly, it would rather appear that these comments reflect Senator Lott's true prejudices on race.'
'The time has come for leaders of the Republican Party to speak out against Senator Lott's remarks.
I call on George Bush and Marc Racicot Chairman of the Republican Party, to denounce Senator Lott's comments..'
'Likewise I join incoming Congressional Black Caucus Chair Representative Elijah Cummings is expressing concern with Senator Lott's fitness to serve as leader of the United States Senate.'

Bush will have a private meeting with Lott, and ask him to step aside as Majority Leader. He's become a very negative distraction.
Lott has injured the Republican Party, and the image of the the President.

It's a good thing Lott isn't part of the Clinton party or he'd have to worry about flying, walking, etc...

What gets me, is now the conservatives are howling too! For heaven's sake! Didn't Lott apologize? And isn't that enough? I can't believe that after all the smart-aleky, cutting remarks that liberal Dems. make about Repubs., and our President, that they have the nerve to say anything!
I can't believe the spoiled, mean-spirited, bratty-kid, behavior that Lott's critics are leveling at him. I can understand some of them, especially the Repub. critics, but the liberal Dem. critics are nothing short of hypocritical!
