"Other administration officials said plans for the meeting sparked a dispute among officials on the National Security Council staff who opposed the meeting because it would be viewed as rewarding a foreign general who threatened to attack the United States."

Interesting.

"Miss Rice and two aides met with Gen. Xiong and three other Chinese military officials in her office at the White House West Wing.

'She stressed that the United States does not support Taiwan independence but that we have the means and will to meet our commitments to Taipei,' the senior official said."

"The U.S. does not support Taiwan independence." Wow. That's news to me. Is this the one China policy? "...but that we have the means and will to meet our commitments to Taipei." Major cognitive dissonance. If we don't support Taiwan's independence, why would we help her defend her independence from Communist China?

I'm sure she's the best person for the job.

Oceania is at war with Eurasia. Oceania has never been at war with Eastasia...

Whatever it takes to fool 'em today. It's your government, and they are here to help.

"...and another thing. Don't worry about that MFN thingy. We need all the cheap crap you can send us. Our Federal Reserve is writing hot checks like you would not believe, and without all your goods undercutting our own manufacturing base, inflation would go 'kablooie.' You keep cranking out all the plastic crapola, we will keep printing the green crapola, and when we are out of power, we will hand you the Eastern Pacific."
-Condi Rice, National Security Advisor.
