A diet lacking in fat and protein is often deadly.
Who said anything about a diet lacking fat and protein? The key is balance. I understand the need for EFAs.
What, exactly, are your credentials? How has fruit been modified? Are you going to support your claims or do you just make outrageous claims (like that you invented the question mark)?
It also seems like your facts are a little mixed up. According the pamphlet
Using the Food Guide Pyramid, the recommendations include sirloin steak and pork/vegetable stir fry. Doesn't sound like they're telling you to dump fat and protein, does it, Doctor?
So, have you ever
actually read about the food pyramid or are you simply repeating what your latest, favorite author (Atkins or Peskin) said about it?
Did you actually read my original post or were you just trying to score points?
Thus my troll comment.
Get informed.

Of course I also do the Marine Corps daily 7!
Just looked this up (son of an Army Vet, nephew of a Marine Corps Vet). Dad never lifted that I knew of.
I think I've got something new to try. Thanks!

On a similar note, the first Krispy Kreme doughtnut shop just opened here in San Antonio...
The SAPD has been directing traffic over there for the last 2 months.

Who said anything about lacking fat and protein? You did.
I'm dealing with this right now. And it sucks. But I've lost 10 pounds in almost two weeks. Just whole grains, fruits, vegetables, light dairy and occasional fats. Oh, and I'm rowing my butt off every morning.
I have seen the stupid pyramid. Look, I am as well or better read and informed as the next guy and I'm not the one whose trying to lose weight. Eat all the damned pasta and sugar you effing want.
Sorry I said anything to you. Don't bother to look anything up and especially don't bother to follow the link on post 35.

Fat Americans: Victims or Targets or Gluttons?

Me, I eat badly, if regularly, luv bread and more bread, cheese, chocolate, beer, cheap wine, did I say cheese?, dairy everything, hate canned stuff, don't know the diff between a carbo and a protein, don't give a damn what the gubmint sez I oughtta eat, and to spite the health Church Ladies and assorted diet nazis, I'm in perfect health, exercise too much and drink too much! A goddarn subversive in today's intrusive culture!
(Some other time I'll tell you all about that delish rotten brie cheese I had this past summer in the Czech Republic!)

"My friend, carbs have been a dietary staple since time immemorial. And yet the fat explosion in America, especially among the young, is a new phenomena. The Atkins theory doesn't account for that."
Hello? Sedentary lifestyles, period.

"The bottom line is the food pyramid is IRRELEVANT. It doesn't matter whether it is upside down or not. The primary factor is exercise. A hundred fifty years ago, people were eating far less beef, chicken, and pork then they are now. In fact, they were eating a lot more carbos back then - simply because it was more difficult to store and obtain meat for the average family. Yet back then there was no epidemic of obesity as we see know."
Back then most people also died well before their 50th birthday too. Disease, poor hygiene, lack of medical expertise, you name it. People didn't live long enough for cholesterol to give them a heart attack. All the exercise they got through manual labor was irrelevant too.

Agree with the exercise sentiments. But I must say, the best way to combat gaining "bad" weight is through strength training. You rev-up your metabolism so much by breaking down large muscle fibers through resistance training. You basically turm your body into a food furnace. I know not everyone's body is the same though. Also, being single, I have more time to hit the gym that most. I lift 5 or 6 days a week, for about an hour each session. I also get in at least 4 sessions of cardio a week (running- can't shake the habit from 8 years in the Army). The bottom line, I eat like a hog. Hit the gym folks, it works wonders!

Also, it is perhaps worth noting that this so called "fat explosion" is taking place among the lowest classes of the society, the lumps, who are so adored by the government parties (both of them) in Washington because they are such dependable voters and by being encouraged to vot (or dissuaded from voting) they can decide many elections, and because they are the designated recipients of government largesse. I don't see any "fat explosion" among the educated classes! There is no "national problem", as far as this cat's concerned!
(Sorry to bring up a taboo subject of class distinctions.)
