When you include the height and width of an image, it tells the browser how much space to reserve for the image. Even if your image doesn't show right away, your browser doesn't have to find the image first and then figure out how much space it needs. The thread loads faster. (At least that's my understanding). Michigander can explain it much better than I. Mich??
For example:
