Jesse Jackson can say Hymie town and Lott gets this?????

"...New York's Rev. Al Sharpton called Jews "diamond merchants," and spoke of "white interlopers" who, he felt, did not belong in the minority community. Again, no problem. Indeed, presidential contenders Al Gore and Bill Bradley, during the Harlem presidential debate, showered praise on Sharpton, noting how much the reverend had "grown." Never mind that Sharpton falsely accused former Dutchess County, N.Y., Assistant State Attorney General Steven Pagones of raping Tawana Brawley. Pagones, along with his daughter, received death threats following Sharpton's accusation. When Pagones claimed innocence, Sharpton challenged Pagones to sue for defamation. Pagones did, and won. Sharpton refuses to pay one dime, apparently transferring his assets into his wife's name. As for an apology, fuggedaboudit..."

Here's how the Washington Post is playing it:

Who says the liberal media died. They're at it again and in full-court press until election day 2004.

"Sharpton is a fool. Lott is the best Republican Speaker of the Senate that the Rats have ever had."

Those were my thoughts, exactly. Sharpton may rue the day he did this....

I wonder if those comments will be mentioned during the 2004 Presidential Campaign?

WHat kind of crap is this? Commending the man for having a distinguished carreer by saying the nation would have been better off had he become president is blatantly racist? Hey Al, why don't you go help Jesse with all is illegitimate offspring... you want to help the inner city community? Start by focusing on where the real devestation lies, not some retirement party for a 100 year old senator. But in the tons of illegitimate children and government programs that fester and allow the entitlement mentality and lack of accountability in the urban inner cities.

Hell if Jesse Jackson can go having kids all willie nillie, and not stick around, why the hell should those of far less means and ability be expected to? You want to help Al, work on the problem, and the problem ain't Lott or Thurman... problem is facing those perpetuating it in the mirror every morning... but its far easier to blame whitey, than face the truth.

Lott is the best Republican Speaker of the Senate that the Rats have ever had.

I suspect that's why the Senate RATs are staying out of this one.

But nobody's boycotting anything because nobody but Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson care!

For reasons which I do not understand, a lot of people on this site seem to care. I keep pointing out to them that using this issue to get rid of Lott would just subject all the rest of us to PC speech codes, but most of them don't even respond.

National Action Network

I just did a google search on Al's current presidential status (e.g. Pres of Nat'l Action Network- & founder)... results = error, no longer in service, domain for sale, $29.95 order fee to get into the "National press Club", etc, blah, blah, blah.

Never mind about Byrd, and all the dimocrap racial slurs... especially on white heterosexual males {rolling eyes.) Dullton needs to sit down and shut up... along with Jessssssssssssie ... they who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

As much as I want to see Lott step aside, I would NEVER join the likes of Dullton leading the move.

Didn't Senator Robert Byrd (D-WV) say "N---er" on live national television last year? Where was the outrage over this?

That will make them all shut up.

Here's a link to a one-hour video and audio recording of the C-SPAN broadcast of Thurmond's birthday celebration. It includes Lott's entire speech. I have in on my screen now and I'm reviewing it.

http://www.c-span.org/politics/

The link to the Javascript is at about the center of the C-SPAN page. I'll transcribe the remarks by Lott, preceding his "all these problems" statement. There is no printed transcript on the Internet that I can find, at least not yet.

Feel free to click on the link above, download the 1-hour recording and follow along with me. If you're following along with me, fast-forward to exactly halfway through the recording. That is where Lott's speech starts.

Dole introduced Lott by mentioning that when Strom Thurmond was landing by glider in Normandy on June 6, 1944 Trent Lott was only three years old. http://www.c-span.org/politics/

Verbatim transcript of the beginning of Trent Lott's speech:

Well thank you, ladies and gentlemen, and thank you my good friend and my predecessor, my hero, Bob Dole, for that introduction, that very brief introduction I might add [Laughter] But for Senator Strom Thurmond's family and friends and admirers all, it's a great pleasure for me to be here with you today, and I know that you're enjoying every minute of this. And I knew that the previous remarks would be just as they were. I mean, after all, Bob Dole received the Republican nomination and dang near was elected President of the United States telling Strom Thurmond jokes. [Laughter] If he'd just gotten himself some new material there toward the end he would have done it. [Laughter] I want to say this about my state. When Strom Thurmond ran for President we voted for him. [Laughter] We're proud of it. [More laughter] And if the rest of the country had followed our lead, we wouldn't have had all these problems over all these years, either.

HE WAS JOKING, PEOPLE.

The quotation that has been bandied about as so-called "proof" of Lott's "racism" was clearly told for laughs. It was at the beginning of the speech, after Dole told a few Strom Thurmond jokes. Then Lott stood up and said that in 1996, Dole was nominated for President "and dang near was elected President of the United States telling Strom Thurmond jokes."

Then came the quotation that everyone is bleating about, and it got a few laughs, exactly as Lott had clearly intended. Then came more jokes, including one about how "the Capitol froze over" inserted in place of "hell freezes over," and a reference to Dole's Pepsi commercial with Britney Spears.

Lott should apologize for his remarks or clarify them only if Jesse Jackson apologizes for malaligning Mississippi when that boy committed suicide (investigation by the FBI, NYC Police and Mississippi Authorities). Jesse never apologized for his accusations and never admitted to the plethora of evidence saying that it was clearly a suicide. If Trent has cajones he would tell Jesse and Al to take a hike.
