The pollution-controlling inserts can cost between $2,200 and $3,400.
Is this really the case? I can't see this as being anything more than installing a HEPA filter in your fireplace. Maybe having it sealed on your roof ads to the cost, but $3400?

I think they are talking about wood burning inserts that are actually wood burning fireboxes built to the same standard as wood burning stoves but made to be inserted into fireplaces and not as stand alone wood burners. They are more expensive and the price range sounds about right.
