CALL me a sucker, but I believe that most of the ways the state spends the taxes I send it are worthwhile.
The state educates people (half the general fund), provides income and health care to poor people (a quarter), locks up bad guys, supports local government and provides parks. The rest of what it does accounts for just a few pennies on the dollar.

Now is the time for contracting out services to the private/non-profit sector even if it means weakening the unions. Services go up, costs go down. Only a bureaucrat would oppose.

I think we could save the CA budget from unproductive expenditures, by laying off all lawyers employed by the state that are not directly involved in law enforcement, i.e. ADA's and PDA's. Those laid off can find work in Mississippi.

Tough choices for some!
There is a lot of wasted money spent in Sacramento!

The schools could eliminate 90% or better of their administration personel and go back to the way schools were operated in the 40s and 50s and their budgets would be drasticly reduced.
For that matter, just eliminate the public schools and the budget would be balanced and the little urchins wouldn't be getting their heads filled with nonsense.

Let's even stipulate that all the things the state spends money on may be wonderful. The big question is how come other states can do these same things for a fraction of the per-capita cost of California?
To: John Jorsett
NOT going to be my problem any longer.... I'll be outta' here in a little over three months.... after that, the state can be overloaded with illegal aliens in a sea of red ink, capsize and sink....
And I simply won't care...
I was born here, have lived most of my life here... But it's time to leave...

CALL me a sucker, but I believe that most of the ways the state spends the taxes I send it are worthwhile.I hope the entire state government, and all their stinking programs collapse. I sincerely hope this is pissing off many people.
We have become very good and creative at paying as little tax as possible. I contribute as little as possible to these screw worm career lawyer/politicians and their big government corruption.
I consider it my second job to avoid their criminal taxes. We get very creative doing this.
I suggest others do the same.
To: Capitalist Eric
Good luck, but escaping California will merely delay the problems of the illegals for you. They're already showing up in every state. I'm thinking of heading just across the border to Mexico, myself, particularly if CA raises taxes on 'the rich'.

after that, the state can be overloaded with illegal aliens in a sea of red ink, capsize and sink....The only place your going to avoid illegal aliens, is Mexico. Hehehe.

LOL
The Calif bureaucrats don't know what a budget hit is.
Answer: the taxpayers will get the hit.
The employed... the producers.
The bureaucracy will expand; the freeloaders will multiply.
It's great watching a trainwreck in slow motion...
To: NormsRevenge
Is it not the case that many social services costs are born by border states such as California from massive illegal immigration increasing pressure on hospitals, welfare, schools, etc.? One way to cut costs therefore would be to lobby the federal government for more effective patrolling of the borders and for discontinuing the rule that any kid born on US soil is automatically a US citizen and can provide a back door method of permitting otherwise illegal immigrants into the state...

The state educates people (half the general fund), ... I quit reading after seeing the above. In addition to being a sucker, he is uninformed, ignorant and misleading.
The half that makes the education budget goes to feeding a bloated bureaucracy and a crony's list of contracts for subcontracting various construction projects and leftist social iniatives such as promoting certain lifestyles.

It does seem hard to believe that a state could spend half its revenues on schools. Something is very wrong there.

CA has a lot of greedy live-off-the governmentbots? Most of the money governments spend ends up with for-profit businesses, not with govt. employees. (sigh)

It's been shown many times that just throwing money at the schools doesn't improve education. It does, however, make the Unions happy. Maybe it's not so hard to figure out why this is a thoroughly Dem state.
To: NormsRevenge
...it's the wrong time for cuts and the wrong time for tax hikes. But there are no other choices; both will have to be done. This is the standard Leftist line coming directly from the DNC. Raise taxes ("cuts" are not really "cuts" as we all know from previous experience).
The best thing for California and the Republicans is to simply not pass a budget for the next two years. Love that 2/3 super majority to pass a budget...

COME ON DAVIS...MAKE MY DAY...RAISE MY TAXES...LOL
