I don't understand. Your example is of someone being deliberately misquoted. Trent Lott is being quoted correctly, and you refuse to aknowledge the meaning of his words.

If I were a drama-queen, I would say that Trent Lott, a United States Senator, who has been in the Senate for decades, a majority leader, during a time of war against terrorists, decided at a friend's B-day party, who is turning 100, to suddenly announce:

"I am a racist, I want segregation to return as a policy for this country, I am putting a bill on the floor as soon as we return in January". "And furthermore, I hate Blacks, I want to return to slavery, and I love the KKK."

I'm asking a ficticious hypothetical. Do you think the hypothetical I asked in # 53 is a fair interpretation of that quote? Do you think anyone could be conceivably justified in calling someone a "racist" for that quote?

Lott's comment is truly insensitive and stupid...

but let's not carry away -

The public nneds to reconcil the fact that

1) Strom in 1948 ran as a dixiecrat - not a republican
2) Strom elected in the senate as a democrat (1954)
3) AlGore Sr. vote NO on the Civil Rights Bill
4) BillKlinton's mentor in Arkansas is a Segregationist as well
5) The most senior member of the demorat in the senate is a former KKK member
6) During the days of the Civil Rights turmoil - the South was solidly voted for Demcrat
7) The Civil Rights Bill would not have passed without the votes from the Republicans in the North
8) Slavery was ened by the Founder of the Republican Party - A. Lincoln...(not Jesse rent the mop Jackson)
9) The most powerful Blacks in this nation now is NOT the mopsters like Jackson, hatemongers like Sharpton or Racists Hags like Waters - the most powerful ones are those who work hard, earn teir stripes - such as Powell and Rice
10) The real slavery these days is how the blacks vote...they vote 9/1 for the RATS - but what had the RATS done for them - what Had the Klintons done for them...they kept voting for these folks and got nothing back, the dims are taking them for granted, the dims are the true slavemasters of the blacks these days.

Well I'll admit I would like to see Lott replaced with someone who has a spine

But Jesse as usually is picking a stupid fight .. I tend to agree with Bob Novak .. it was just a stupid joke that was said at Stroms 100th Birthday Party .. up there with Strom is the greatest American

Strom is a great guy but not the greatest american ..

Remember folks .. the Libs are gearing up for the 2004 election .. they are going to pick apart EVERYTHING the Rebpublicans say

Plus .. I don't recall hearing an apology for the "white cracker" comment made towards President Bush

I think the Majority Leader was referring to Strom hiring blacks in the Sentate before anyone else when he said' We would have been better off [in the 1960's race situations] with a leader like Strom

But he said Strom should have been elected, in 1948. He was running as a segragationist then, that was his big issue.

The meaning of Senator Lott's words are deliberately being twisted -he would have to be a complete d*mn fool to have intended what he is being accused of meaning. Being mean spirited or raciest is not one of Lotts faults.

As far as his wimpish leadership up until now, I believe he assumed the democrats would recipricate in kind, to good manners and fairness. He has a chance to prove himself now, with a modest majority, and hopefully has learned the folly of sharing the power with the democrats.

You don't know?

Didn't you just call him vile, and along with Jesse Jackson, ask him to step down?

FYI

A contingent of black business leaders and clergy will march today on the Chicago headquarters of the Rev. Jesse Jackson's Rainbow/PUSH Coalition to protest what they call Mr. Jackson's "self-anointment" as a black leader. "Jesse Jackson has passed himself off as a leader of African Americans," said the Rev. Lance Davis, a Chicago-area minister who has led three other protests against Mr. Jackson in the past month. "Mr. Jackson is not a leader, and he is not a role model, yet he has been represented as one by the media and by himself and his supporters." The protesters, a loosely knit group of about 300 who call themselves Voices of Morality, are also asking businesses and corporations to ignore Mr. Jackson, who has forced major companies to adopt expensive diversity programs under the threat of boycott.
