Republicans overwhelming choice over Democrats on family values, integrity; Dems lead on tolerance, Zogby Post-Election Survey Reveals

A new poll conducted in 18 states and the District of Columbia reveals that in 17 of the states, Republicans are deemed by voters as better suited than Democrats on family values and integrity.

The Zogby Post-Election Poll, conducted by telephone November 7 –10, continues to look at how specific demographic groups voted in the Midterm elections, and why.19 State Post Election Report

The poll sampled 600 actual voters in 18 states and the District of Columbia. States polled were Florida, Louisiana, Massachusetts, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Georgia, Colorado, Michigan, North Carolina, Missouri, and Minnesota, Iowa, New Hampshire, Arkansas, California, and South Dakota.

Of those states, Democrats were judged clearly best suited to promote family values only in the heavily Democratic District of Columbia (Democrats 57%, Republicans 13%). Voters in Massachusetts were split (Democrats 36%, Republicans 35%). In every other state, Republicans were the clear choice to handle family values including California (Republicans 42%, Democrats 31%), Minnesota (Republicans 41%, Democrats 32%), and Texas (Republicans 56%, Democrats 25%).

Integrity

Republicans also are the overwhelming choice over Democrats in 17 states as the party that best represents integrity. Voters in D.C. (Democrats 52%, Republicans 14%) were the only ones polled who deem Democrats the best for handling integrity. Voters in Massachusetts (Democrats 34%, Republicans 32%) were split. Republicans were deemed best to handle integrity by voters in states including Florida (Republicans 43%, Democrats 29%), New York (Republicans 36%, Democrats 29%) and Colorado (Republicans 46%, Democrats 23%).

Tolerance

Democrats were the clear choice in 16 states and the District of Columbia as best suited to handle tolerance. In no state did voters choose Republicans as best representing tolerance. Voters in Louisiana (Democrats 41%, Republicans 42%) and Texas (Democrats 42%, Republicans 40%) were split.

Pollster John Zogby: “In the midst of a war on terrorism, tolerance could become a national issue and help the Democrats. However, as the party re-evaluates itself after its defeat in November, it needs to be looking at why it scores so low on family values and integrity, along with national security and the economy. So far, only the DLC appears to be concerned about the family values deficit. Losing the middle class, especially parents, could be devastating to the Democrats.” 19 State Post Election Report

"For each of the following issues, please tell which party you feel is better equipped to handle the issue - Democrats or Republicans?"

What exactly does he mean by tolerance?

Kissing @ss to buy votes. Truly tolerant DemoRats are the ones who have no ethical or moral standards and will kiss anyone's @ss if it will benefit them or their party.

New Jersey was left off of the list of states polled.

New Jersey voters refused to participate unless offered a Rolex. Besides the NJ Supreme Court voted 7-0 against integrity.

I think I figured it out. New Jersey was in the list, but the numbers were coming in so bad that Zogby dropped New Jersey after 550 phone calls and substituted DC in its place.

Here's your "tolerance' question...

Suppose a radical group of a foreign religious cult were to commandeer several commuter airplanes and sequentially crash them into various US buildings over the course of several hours in a single day. Hundreds of passengers aboard the planes will be killed. Thousands of innocent US citizens - including children - would be killed in their offices. Which political party would be more tolerant of the religious concerns of the hijackers, Republicans or Democrats?

"Tolerance" has become a democratic buzzword, they use it so often, that its meaning has become secondary, all the people know, is that dems are for it. If you asked republicans if they think that the dems stand for "tolerance", they'd reply, yea for baby killers, gays, anti-white racists, etc. The key part would be the first word, "yea". Most people see the Rats as the party of "tolerance", thats there image, thats there talking point, every single speech, every interview, every social issue has that word. Its simple repition. Does it actually mean anything positive, no. ALot of people will say the rats have to much "tolerance" and not like it, some people will say they themselves are intolerant of islamofacists, but the rats are "tolerant" of them. Being the party of "tolerance" might not always be a good thing. Zogby did not point that out. I think it may have actually been a negative thing in this past election.

I just pointed out to liberal rats at another site how far off old zog is and his polling company is as worthless as the two brothers are.

With Zogby election polls where we can check if he is right or wrong we find he is wrong.

Zogby published election polling we didn't want to hear. It was wrong. Why should I believe him when he tells me things we do want to hear. I would betcha these polls are just a bull crappy as the others.

When a liar tells you what you want to hear, that does not make it the truth.

Tolerance of what? Sleaze?

Heh.  You make the point.  Defining something
as sleaze displays intolerance for what others may
find perfectly acceptable.

At one time I respected Zogby, the pollster - not his brother. However, prior to this election and influenced by the war on terror - I think he let his Arab biases get in the way. It will be very difficult for the pollster to regain his credibility.

TOLERANCE? TOLERANCE? We tolerated the crap of the Clinton Administration for 8 LOOOOOONNGGG years! Maybe Zogby wants us to "tolerate" lying, cheating, scamming, spinning, scheming, dissing and decimating our military and other scummy behavior. SORRY, ain't buying it.....it's a bunch of hooey. (I'm being nice.)

Naahh. We didn't tolerate the Clinton Administration. We tolerated the Constitutional process that let him take power, knowing that the same process would remove him sooner or later. Since his colleagues didn't do their job then, the electorate is doing it for them now.

If we didn't tolerate it, someone would have assassinated him.

Good point. And for that matter, what the heck is Zogby doing polling on any of these issues? They don't mean a dang thing to a candidate--what are you going to do, come out and say that you're tolerant to get your tolerance numbers up? Tell people you're for family values instead of against them? Say you're FOR integrity? Say your name is NOT Torricelli?

This is the state of American politics. We have pollsters asking voters about completely idiotic 'issues,' voters who hate 'confrontational and divisive' or 'partisan' politicians, and politicians who refuse to take on the real issues because of the aforementioned morons.

I love my country, but GAWDAMIGHTY, we have some stupid people! Guess it could be worse...

...they could all be French.

Via Andrew Sullivan...

"Tolerant, but not stupid! Look, just because you have to tolerate something doesn't mean you have to approve of it! ..."Tolerate" means you're just putting up with it! You tolerate a crying child sitting next to you on the airplane or, or you tolerate a bad cold. It can still pi$$ you off! " - Mr. Garrison, South Park.

Zogby has to poll on some issue just to keep his name in the news.

I'm sure he suspected the outcome on the 'integrity' and 'family values' questions before he asked them. I would bet he added the 'tolerance' question to try to make the 'rats look good. The surprise is that they barely came out ahead on this feel good question.

Tolerance of what?</>

High Taxes. Legal infanticide of near-term infants. "Everybody does it" Clintonesque morality. Moral relativism. Suppression of conservative viewpoints.

Yo Zogby, poll this! (gesturing dramatically)

Gesturing? Is that what you call it? Jocelynn Elders calls it safe sex.

IMHO, when it comes to tolerance the liberals hardly understand what the word means. All I've seen is that their paramount role in life appears to be one of criticizing intolerance.

So very well stated.

"Tolerance of what? Sleaze?"

My question, too.

“In the midst of a war on terrorism, tolerance could become a national issue...

What the hell is a "tolerance issue"? What does it have to do with the war on terrorism? Are we supposed to be tolerant of terrorism? If that's the case, there's no question the Democrats are "best suited to handle tolerance"...

Or is Zogby concerned that the time is coming when every truck stop and pool hall will have a "No Palestinians Allowed" sign on the door...???
