If the cow had to go against an SUV the cow would have won. Too bad for the cow.

It was clearly a moo-ving violation. I don't know what her beef is. She should be hoofing it to jail, where she'll have plenty of time to rumminate on her crime. But no, she has to be Bossie. Now she'll milk the trial for all she can. I hope the judge kicks her in her dairy-ere.

As strange as this sounds, there is precident, applicable, even in the American legal system.
Under maritime law, a ship can be "arrested" for causing an accident, and -- if it is found "guilty" (there is another term used that I forget) -- held until damages are paid, or sold to recover the cost of damages.
It sounds like the was judge moo-oved (sorry) by that type of logic, but what value the cow would have 1-1/2 years after being hit by a fast-moving car is beyond me. (Now, if they had sold the hamburger resulting immediately after the accident. . .)
Any lawyers want to comment?

Wonder if the cow and Anna Nicole Smith have something in common and would like to change places? Would anyone notice?

I'm no lawyer, and I'm not up on legal history, but it seems this all comes of corrupted legal traditions. In English law property is the predominant right in contracts and tort. The cow has an owner. The owner has land, and the owner is responsible for both.
I used to travel in South America. Land ownership is vaguely respected in rural areas, and often flaunted. Boundaries are rarely marked, much less fenced. Cows belong or don't belong to anybody. They murder automobiles all the time. I'm glad at least one of them is being held to account.
(I did see one cow inside a car, a little Brazilian VW Rabbit-type car... unbelievable, doing 15 on a highway, with the legs sticking out the window).

This is clearly Rush Limbaugh's fault. I'm sure the FOX News Channel and the Washington Times share some of the blame as well.
