I had a pilonidal cyst removed in 1953 at the Philly naval hospital It took over three months to heal, as they used the open wound type surgery.I suffered for 6 months proir to the surgery.

Apparently, the issue of a pilonidal cyst is moot here. Rush, according to posters here, said that is a network hoax.

So why did he not serve then? Inquiring minds want to know.

He didn't serve for the same reason most of his class and connections didn't. He didn't want to risk his life in Vietnam and didn't have to because he was a fortunate son. That's the reason, the rest are details.

What you said is ultimately the truth. Many young men did whatever it took to avoid military service during Vietnam.

My father in law was there early on from 62-65 when they had severe restrictions on how and when to defend mortar attacks on the base.

He was a master sergeant USAF(39 years old) working on spy planes I think he lost a few buddies to mortars and even though he and his men had the implements to strike back against mortar positions they were ordered to refrain because of either it was the Army's job or the gooks were in civvie areas....wow how strange right...VC in civvie zones!

Anyhow....he's still pissed and will die pissed.

Rush's 4-F form which explicitly states his "pilonidal cyst" is printed in "The Rush Limbaugh Story" by Paul D. Colford.

It's not an internet legend, and Rush's denial is shameful.

How come there's no discussion about what Kerry did when he came back from Vietnam, about how he joined the most radical of the anti-war protestors when are men were still in POW camps? That was disgraceful conduct, and his prior service in Vietnam doesn't give him a free ride on his subsequent conduct -- and that, by the way, includes his pathetic dissembling on Iraq and other current matters of national security. George McGovern served bravely as a combat pilot during World War II. I don't remember him repeatedly reminding people of his service, and I don't remember Vets or conservatives refusing to question him on his preposterous defense positions, either (including cutting the defense budget by 25%).

I don't put much credance in the opinion of warmongers that didn't spend one minute in defense of their country.

You just summed up my whole worldview on this Iraq debate. Whenever I hear someone going on about this like they're gearing up for the big game, I get ill. The peaceniks make me just as ill.

What brought it all home for me was the salesman who sold me my truck the other day. He retired from the marines after 20 years and now they're calling him back. I'm not very emotional, but talking to this guy got to me. That sinking feeling you get when you're forced into to a war zone was written all over his face. He talked about his little girl.

I truly believe that if everyone on earth participated in a war first hand (note: first hand is not sitting your fat ass on your recliner and watching CNN) there would be no more wars.

This puts him up to 1970-71 when the draft was ebbing ("Vietnamization" was the buzzword from Nixon and Kissinger).

I was born in 1950 and the draft was in full swing in 1970 with the new "number" lottery. I had a high number, 335, but got drafted anyway.

I think your pilot was jerking your chain, Sir. I had the same operation on my pilonidal cyst. Yes, is was really painful. Once they removed it, I was pain free. I could set on my butt again. I was off work for maybe 7 to 10 days. I worked under a nuclear security program and wasn't allowed to work because of Med's. But for Rush to use that (pilonidal cyst) and a bum knee is crazy. If he is so gun hoo for war, he could have taken his sore butt and had the operation. He said he hurt his knee in highschool football. His football coach said, Rush played for one year, and wasn't ever injure. So Rush dodge the draft and here he is talking about everyone who dodge the draft. He is the lead chicken-hawk. I think it shine a light on his hypocrisy.

>>>...an anal cyst.

When they become infected, they must be removed. It is a very expensive operation. The Army dosn't want to take anyone who will require an expensive operation because of the dollars.

My son had this operation when he was about 15. It is very expensive.

It would be like you buying a new car that needed a new engine. Why not buy one that did not need that expense.

There are plenty of guys that did not need that expense, that is why they give physicals when they are deciding who to take and who not to take.

It has nothing to do with whether somone is connected or worthy. It is wholly economic.
