The comment that stuck out at me was 'This is how I felt when I watched the first Star Wars in 1977.'
Box Office predictors have moved their projections for the film into the 500 million dollar range.

If you're the idiot you sound like... who cares? I see, so not thinking Tolkein is a god makes one an idiot? Looks like we got another public school grad on our hands.

I agree the first one was heavy on plot and introducing the characters.
According to Time Magazine there is no buildup this time, no plot summaries.. just straght to the battle of Helms Deep

Keep proving my point exactly.
Sorry, I will agree LOTR was visually stunning, and kept true to Tolkeins work... the book had a ratio of plot to visual description of about 1 to 5, the movie kept that ratio true to form. The movie was needlessly extended simply for the sake of being long, even the action scenes were in slow motion.
I am an avid fan of Fantasy, but have never cared for Tolkien because of the fact his books are just too slow moving. I give the movie credit it captured the book, and was visually a masterpiece, but the fact they chose to make it even longer than it needed to be, made it insufferable, much like Tolkiens books.

No two people have exactly the same taste (or opinions) so it's quite alright that you disliked
The Fellowship. To those of us who are fans of the trilogy, watching it was like coming home.
Besides, if you don't go to see The Two Towers it is doubtful that New Line Cinema or the theaters are going to notice your absence and you'll free up seats for the rest of us.

I don't mind plot build up, I understand it, I have read fantasy my entire life. Most fantasy epics, require buildup. I don't think that LOTR suffered from that, I think it just suffered from the same thing, to me that the books suffered from.... too little plot advancement and too much scenery. What really turned me off was when they decided that even the fight scenes needed to be in slow motion, that to me was rediculous, it added 20 minutes easily to the movie for no real reason. It smacked of being "artsy" simply for "artsy's" sake. Did not help the story or its presentation at all.
