Extra-marital sex can increase your risk of having a heart attack, a British cardiologist has told a European congress on sexual health.
I'm sure the delegates from France were pretty upset - Ivan
Graham Jackson, a heart specialist at St Thomas's Hospital in London, found couples in long-term relationships were far less likely to have heart attacks while having sex than those having affairs or one-night stands.
And less likely to have a severe cashectomy performed on them afterwards - Ivan
"We found that 75 per cent of the cases of sudden death during sexual activity involved people who were taking part in extra-marital sexual intercourse," he told the congress in Hamburg.
The danger of having heart failure during extra-marital sex was exacerbated even further when there was a significant difference in age between the partners.
Well I guess that takes care of Jacques Chirac - Ivan
Dr Jackson said that even though heart rates accelerate during all sexual activity, his research found "couples in long-term relationships in general hardly faced any risk of heart failure".
He said measurements on blood pressure and heart rates found sex is generally comparable to a brisk 20-minute walk, with an orgasm putting a strain on the heart similar to an ensuing walk up a flight of stairs.

It's amazing when science catches up with common sense and is presented as some sort of revelation.
It's not. What is less likely to be stressful - doing something fundamentally wrong or doing something reinforcing to your lifelong commitment? No brainer, really.
Regards, Ivan

Heh! The science appears to have proven that married sex gets boring & routine after a while. Big surprise there!

Heart attacks? How about the rampant human papiloma virus, STD, and its implications in many types of cancer?!

Probably has something to do with an old guy on Vigra trying to prove he's still a raging bull....his d*ck think's it's 17 again, but his heart knows better.

Most people have probably heard the old joke about the guy who has had a heart attack and goes back to his doctor for a followup visit.
"Doctor, is it O.K. for me to have sex?"
"Yes, but only with your wife. I don't want you getting excited."
Actually, I prefer your theory that the guilt-induced stress is the causal mechanism.

Knew someone that died in the act and not with his wife. The jokes about that were rampant in our community for years. Nice legacy to leave your wife and kids.

But wait! Didn't RBA have an article the other day that said fooling around was good for your marriage??
(It's not if you have a heart attack while you're with The Other Woman I bet!)
