Are you kidding me? Look at this snippit:
our country is not well served by class warfare and I wont engage in it.
And what does he do immediately following?
But I do believe in fairness. It is wrong to give tax cuts to those who have been the most rewarded over the last 10 years at the expense of working families and the middle class
What the heck is that? Substantive my foot.

I didn't say to give him credit for being "substantive", I said give him credit for "seeming to appear thoughtful." The fact remains that he is addressing issues that have a whole lot more relevance and resonance to the average American than the "lockbox" rhetoric of the last election did.
There is no doubt that this is a "trial balloon" to see how this message is going to do with the average voter. Don't underestimate the enemy, don't think you are just going to roll over them in the next election. The more Republicans can learn from their posturing, the better the odds of defeating them the next election.
I do believe that Republicans are going to have to face a much more aggresive Democratic candidate in the next election, and I don't think it will be Hillary or anyone else with the stench of Clintonism associated with them.
BTW, the more I look at pictures of this guy the more I think "Muskie". Anybody else remember Big Ed?
