Al Gore - Can this souffle rise a second time?

I only hear about Dingle-Norwood on FR! That says a lot about Gore's debating style.

I thought the article was excessively kind to Al Gore. It is sickening to attribute any kind of victory to Gore. I am willing to bet that the popular vote margain was stolen in a few places like Chicago, St. Louis, and Detroit.

Gore had a right to challenge some things about Florida, but his behavior through proxies was so shameful he should never offer himself to voters again. That has continued through his disciples ever since, with comments about W. being selected rather than elected, Jeb doing W. a favor, the Supreme Court (usually untouchable) throwing the election to W.

Gore's rights were limited to looking things over and trying to have things his way for a few days. The extensive challenge was truly disgraceful. Al Gore showed his worst side during that time when he gave his hollow laugh and said "This is America."

Much more could be said about Gore not being fit for office. It is appropriate that he and Hillary attacked the whole concept of the electoral college and fell even more in popularity. Carville's tactics worked for a time. Now they will haunt the Democrats, I am glad to say.

Mr. Gore says if he makes the race, he will be different from the guy who ran in 2000.

Perhaps carpetbaggers can dig a little deeper into their luggage to pull out something else which will not be met with scowls, disaffection, derision, and contempt.

Actually, although President Bush's supporters might have been bitter, enraged, and militant about resisting the theft of the election, Bush would have gone back to Texas, finished his term as governor, and retired to his ranch a happy man.

I take it you're not aware of the many military officers who risked their careers, possibly their lives, by stating that if Gore had usurped the presidency, they would have reacted by considering him as one of the *enemies, foreign and domestic* that they have sworn to protect this country's constitution against.

The interesting question is, how many. I am personally aware of more than I have fingers and toes, so it was almost certainly more than a hundred, at least several hundred, and possibly a thousand or more, some in some particularly interesting duty assignments.

I suspect the dispute would have become violent and bloody very quickly. That is, after all, their job, and the duty required by the promise of those oaths they intended to keep.

I don't think Bush would have idly sat by with such things going on, and growing in intensity. I hope not, at least, and still give prayers of thanks it did not.

Well, I know there were rumors, but since I know nothing for sure, I was going simply on the President's temperament and character.

Although I myself was prepared to take to the streets if it came to that, or at least move to Texas and work for secession, I didn't know how angry some in the military were (and rightfully so).

At any rate, I am thankful that we have President Bush, and I will work hard for his reelection. The nation has been given a second chance, and that is more than we deserved.

Let's dispense with this "he should have won because he won the popular vote" BS once and for all. Many years ago, some racing sports writer wrote about some controversial new rules in auto racing - maybe restrictor plate or whatever -it doesn't matter. Anyway, he made the point that the rules were not designed to provide advantage or disadvantage to any driver or car, even though they might initially favor one faction or another, and that over the history of the sport, the same names show up in the winner's circle, regardless of rule changes. That's because they define a winning "strategery", in consonance with whatever rules are in effect.

And so it is with elections. George Bush understood the contest to be about electoral votes - not popular votes. And so did Gore! Bush could have run up his popular vote in Texas and other Red states - even though he was comfortably ahead - but what for? It wasn't part of the game.

And when it was all over, it went into tie-breaker. And despite having corrupt line judges who completely discarded the rule book, the replay officials in the higher "booth" adhered to the rules as they stood. THAT is why George W. Bush is president - and that's why I don't tolerate any whimpering libs, blathering about their lost license to steal.

I can say with confidence there is a substantial group of people who want him to run for president again in 2004. They're called Republicans.
