MOMBASA, Kenya --Kenyan authorities have released a Western couple who were being questioned in connection with the bombing of a resort hotel in Mombasa.
Alicia Kalhammer, an American citizen, and her Spanish husband, Jose Tena, were released on Saturday after nearly two days in police custody.

I understand why Kenyan authorities did what they did, but if a huge Al Queda bomb just went off down the street - like thousands and thousands of Australians in Bali - I would be busy chucking all my stuff into suitcases while dragging them down the steps to get my butt out of there. Guess I'd be a suspect too.

It was obvious from the earliest articles that they were innocent. But as they say, it was also not a bad idea to hold them until that could be confirmed.
I'm glad the Israelis have taken over the investigation. If anyone can find the perps, they are the ones to do it.
