[history]
November 30, 2002 -- Embattled chief U.N. weapons inspector Hans Blix spent yesterday holed-up in his 31st-floor U.N. building office doing paperwork - but came out in defense of a colleague under fire for his kinky S&M lifestyle.
Despite the vote of confidence, controversial weapons prober Harvey John "Jack" McGeorge, 53, of Woodbridge, Va., who was to be sent to Iraq as part of a team to hunt for Saddam Hussein's suspected terror weapons, says he's planning to resign after revelations he's active in several sadomasochistic sex clubs.

Honestly, that the guy is into S&M doesn't bother me. What bothers me is that he has absolutely no experience, training or even any education that would be useful for going in as a weapons inspector.

McGeorge: Walking on the Wild Side

So, the big question is, why was he chosen for the job?

Perhaps he has some really dirty info on some higher-up and he's blackmailing them?
Or perhaps key members of the committee were smoking lots of crack.

Another FReeper said that the websites this guy is on are Gay websites more than S&M websites, not that there is anything wrong with that. I am taking his word on it because I don't care to look myself.

So I take it the commander of these inspection teams isn't even going over to Iraq? Giving orders from afar never works. But this whole thing is a joke anyway.

Who cares what these so called inspectors have as an education. Kinks, finks, or dinks. The entire effort is the biggest joke of modern man. Looking for a grain of sand in the desert. It's just job security for the new up-start profession called "weapons inspector". Wonder if UC Berkley will start a course.
It stinks. This gig is a re-entry point for a bunch of political hacks to suck up some cash.

His sex life does matter, for a bunch of reasons -- good and bad. He would be making certain types of contacts otherwise unmeetable -- we'll count that as good. The bonds of "secret sharers" are deep (just talking to the known results of experimental psychology here, no mysticism) -- and do allow people in such groups to share things that would otherwise not come out (okay -- "all things considered", true.) That can count for good.
The bad stuff is info he has going the other way, he being set up for obvious compromises such as blackmail or less obvious compromises such as some developed affinity for this undesirable or dangerous person or that. Here we see the result of some bad stuff -- yet it's a play, everything can be used for some good, never shrink from walloping a curve.
One thing I really like about this dust-up, is that it removes one franchise building beltway bandito from the castle walls surrounding our national security. By that I mean every beltway "credentialed" McGeorge, who developed his/her lucrative franchise in times of peace -- is likely to be standing like a wooden pike that prevents some unknown-as-yet American with the G-d gifted skill set needed from coming to the fore.

I agree that his private play shouldn't be an issue (as long as it is legal). However I disagree on his qualifications for this team. Being totally useless makes him fit right in with the rest of the "inspectors". They aren't there to really look for anything; they are there to help Iraq thwart a justified attack on it.
