The picture is NOT of a "Napoleon style cannon" - note the banded breech. It looks more like a Parrott, or Confederate Parrott (or possibly a rifled & banded Napoleon). Even if it was a Napoleon, it would be a 12-pounder, not a "12-pound" gun...

That's the media for you...

I hadn't picked up on that, but after reading your comment, I have to agree - whatever it is, it isn't a standard Napoleon. I wonder if it was a Napoleon that they banded because they were afraid the cast iron wouldn't hold up. It would be nice to know whether or not it was rifled.

Perhaps someone with knowledge will pick up on the story and do a good writeup for the Confederate Veteran.
