We marvel at *what* they read. i.e. Last of the Mohicans was a "Best Seller", sorry I don't have the exact sales #'s, but it was something like 90% of the households bought it and read it! Latin and Greek were what was taught and read and *memorized*. By today's standards your *un*-"Literate" grandparents were PhD level. AND the necessity for common sense for survival, much less prosperity meant that most people could *think*. Not like the "sheeple" of today! Bless You, too!

My (illerate) Grandparents as well as my (illerate) parents made sure that I Memorized some Latin and Greek
