The other day someone posted a link to a DU thread on this subject in which a poster proclaimed that this poor woman deserved what she got. I was dumbfounded. In all fairness there was one other poster that at least made a small effort to object.

"We condemn this murder, like we do all murders," said Laura Montgomery Rutt, spokeswoman for Soulforce, a national homosexual activist group. "A hate crime needs to have an intent to intimidate a whole class of people. If in this case, it was directed at this person and intended to intimidate Christians, that would be a hate crime in my mind." Matthew Shepard's killers had no such intent, and yet the case was the impetus for the media push for hate crime legislation.
Ms. Montgomery Rutt of "Soulforce," whom I have found quoted in every single story about this murder, has carved out a nice little niche for herself sticking up for the Gay-stapo. This is despite the fact that she apparently is neither a minister nor a lesbian. She's a PR flack.

If the gay Nazis wasn't a hate group, I don't know what was.

See, it's like this. Gays, Liberals, and other leftists and atheists are EXPECTED to hate, so their hate is not a crime, but just their nature. They just cannot help themselves, so for them to act out of hate, it is not a hate crime.
But christians and conservatives are NOT expected to hate. To the contrary, they are expected to show love and compassion at all times. That is their nature. They are held, therefore, to a higher standard, so if they commit a crime out of hate, then it is, for them, a hate crime.

I really don't understand the concept of this "hate crime" crap. I don't believe anyone's life is worth more or less because of their religion, sexual preference, race, etc, etc, etc. A murder is a murder, so the punishment should be consistently applied.
Of course, that's thinking with logic and reason. We can't have that anymore, can we?
