Eldridge Cleaver is still alive I think. He fleed to Algeria to avoid a jail sentence in the 70's and returned in the mid 80's as an anti communist Moonie at first and then went on to serve on the staff of Jesse Helms in a peripheral capacity. Other than that I haven't heard anything about him.

About Cleaver: about 20 years ago Cleaver made a foray into
the textile industry, trying to market trousers called "Cleavers", which featured a large "codpiece" bulge
in the crotch area. Never caught on, for some reason. No lie.

No, Cleaver died in 1998 at the age of 62. He did indeed die as a Conservative Republican (and took a run for the Senate seat in CA in '86).

Eldridge Cleaver is dead, can't say exactly when, but he passed on a while back. You are correct that Cleaver traveled extensively while in exile; the end result of this was his realization that the US was the best country on earth (read "Soul on Ice".)
