Some years ago while engaged in a political debate about homosexuality in college, I was challenged by a group of liberal left-wing radical feminazi types to defend my views given the then popular notion that homosexuality was genetically caused.
I stated that there seems to be some merit to the claim that homosexuality may indeed be caused by genetic factors. When twins are separated at birth and one is later learned to be homosexual, if one investigates the other twin - there is a high probability that the twin would also be homosexual.
They proceeded to question me as to why I was then against homosexuals. I stated, "I am not against homosexuals, but homosexuality." and this got them going.
I cut them off with this. "When my wife and I decide to have a baby, we intend to take advantage of this knowledge and have the fetus tested for these genetic markers that indicate a propensity toward homosexuality. If found positive - we will have it aborted."
HORROR in their eyes, mouths dropped, and one stated, "That's sad - there are many great people who have contributed to humanity through time. You're going to deny that possibility just because you find out that the fetus is gay?"
I waited....
"It's our CHOICE not to have a homosexual child."
I then lowered my voice - and intoned in my steelly glare - "How does it feel to be Pro-Life? You must not be as liberal as you thought."
I later learned that all had rationalized the event and were convinced that a new law should be enacted to ban people from finding out if a fetus is gay in order to avoid abortions.
Ah, but at least they recognized the slippery slope.
"I once asked, with a perfectly straight face and a completely convincing air of innocence, a pro-choice woman who was studying to be a Jewish rabbi, “Is there a Kosher way to abort a baby, like there are Kosher ways to kill beef and chickens?” She stared at me with daggers for about 5 full seconds trying to see if I was just jerking her chain. She was convinced I was sincere, and told me simply “No.”
I hoped it was a very memorable moment for both of us.
