I have no problem with Lowe's employees not being able to smoke on their property. Also, I have no problem not shopping at Lowe's.

If Loews’s employees do not like the policy they can quit their jobs and find a job where they are able to smoke.

Oh yes, your so right. But I know one man who is close to pension........he's to quit the job and move elsewhere.....sounds about right to me....start over.

Would you favor a Government mandated law prohibiting private companies from restricting smoking on private property?

I don't favor ANY kind of law from the Government when it comes to a legal commodity. I realize it's up to LOWE'S to do what they want, but to diss 25-30% of their employees is cruel punishment.

Well, do you feel that non-smoking restaurant employees should be required to work in smoke filled rooms or should they quit if they do not like their work environment?

Because of their decision I won't shop their anymore and I told them that.

My choice, can't legislate me to shop there.

Are you repeating the spin or do you know some restaurant employees who have complained to you personally???

My guess is you like the spin.

It is a voluntary decision made by a private company. I wont' be applying for a job there anytime soon nor will I any longer be purchasing from them - but it is not the government forcing it upon them.

With all the flammable stuff in a Lowe's store, they should have done this years ago. I work at a newspaper, and I assure you that lighting up in a warehouse full of petroleum-based ink and tinder-dry paper is a hanging offense. A building supply store is another disaster just waiting to happen. No smoking? Of course no smoking!

It used to be in restaurants, there was an ashtray on every table. Then, they were forced to have a smoking and a non-smoking section. Now, most restaurants across the US have been FORCED to go smoke free. The anti's could care less about the restaurant folding, or about having to lay off help, or about the loss of revenue. Just as long as there is NO smoking, that's all the anti's want.

In restaurants, which customers go in voluntarily and PAY for the service, the restaurant should accommodate all the people. But, if a restaurant owner would like to be smoke free, then that is fine. But leave the restaurant for the smokers alone down the street.

Level playing field? No such thing. Smokers don't play on a level playing field. We refuse to spend our money.

Thanks, ozone. I did the same. And I pointed out about the Surgeon General's report about obesity. And what will they do to their obese employees? Do they have plans?

Perhaps that would depend on whether the place was non-smoking when they started there?

You're welcome.

"Building supply" is their term for it.

I don't live near one now; if I did I wouldn't shop there.

I don't smoke or chew (poorman chews) but this anti-tobacco NAZIism has gotten way out of hand.

Gabz, you can bet your last nickle that SOMEONE got ahold of the head of LOWE's! And yes, it sure is up to them. But LOWE'S will no longer get our money. Hey! If they don't want smoking employees, then I guess they don't want customers who smoke as well.
