I've always said, that if you can gamble and be a consistent winner 51% or 52% of the time, quit your job and move to Las Vegas. You will do very well.

Except that, statistically speaking, you can't possibly do that in the casino. The only game that you have a reasonable shot with, given a good strategy and conservative play, is blackjack. And even that's only an advantage in your favor on the order of 1-2%.

Everything else in there is a guaranteed loser, given enough time - the only question is how long it will take the house to clean you out ;)

That's why I said if you could do it...move there and go pro. Because if you can...you are much better/luckier than most. Or you are cheating. In which case, don't move there.

yeah but I wonder about some of these video poker games. There are so many weird variations and double up opportunities it may just be that someone has found a winning strategy. After all who designs these games? It took 50 years to get blackjack "safe" for casinos and they had to do things like go to six decks to make it so.

This is true, but the odds didn't catch up with me last week in Las Vegas. I played slots and won over a thousand dollars. Paid for the trip.

I thought Baccarat was the closest casinos got to 50/50. That said, Roulette provides you with "true" odds, essentially eliminating the house advantage for those players disciplined enough to stick with it.

Well, not everything. There is a sizeable professional poker and sports/horse betting crowd there, as well as the card counters...but that's about it. The caveat is, its not for everybody, the amount of skill required to make a living at these endeavors, would probably get you alot more money at your day job, if you were at the same level of skill. YMMV.

That's true with any game you play against the house. That leaves games in which you compete against other gamblers and the house doesn't care who wins...horse racing, sports, poker. With these, you CAN win consistently if you're willing to put in the effort. Most people aren't.

Las Vegas' and all other casinos are not there for winners. They exist and prosper only because of the eternal losers that are convinced they can win. Losers are all ignorant dupes!

My nephew is a an accountant with a knack for card counting. He wins often enough at 21 to be bodily removed almost every time by the casinos that hate winners who approach the 51% win mark. Last time he lost a lot and they were very pleased with him. I think he is slightly ahead in winnings vs. losses, but he is still behind when he calculates the cost of his trips to Vegas. Is that entertainment? No, but it sure keeps the lights burning bright in Vegas casinos.
