I was living in China at the time when this incident occured. I remembered going down to the US Embassy and arguing with some Chinese nationals about the incident and making it clear, through evidence, that it was the Chinese jet which collided with the US plane first.

My experience was that the Chinese knew it was the China fighter that bumped into the U.S. plane. As they put it, it is not the face that hits the fist.

It was also not a big event as far as the ordinary Chinese were concerned. Much, much more made of this event in the U.S.
