Senate Democrats sent Lt. Gov. John Wilder to serve his 17th term as speaker of the Senate. According to Bonna de la Cruz a writer for the Tennessean, this is Wilder's statement to his fellow Democrats:

"Thank you, I care about you. You make a difference. You make a little difference. A little difference is the difference. That's enough to be the difference."

This guy has been at it too long and needs to retire. With leadership like this, there's no way we can expect government to get its act together.

It might be better to keep Wilder until we're able to #1 get actual conservative leadership in the state Senate (meaning dump Ben Atchley from party leadership post), #2 a Republican majority. Wilder always gave us a fair shake. At least the positive is we dumped Rochelle (who was as obsessed with becoming Lt Gov as Gore was for becoming President). Rochelle would've screwed us big time if he had ever gotten there.

He was sounding senile during the last session. One can only shake their heads in wonder at the GOP voting this guy back in. Little less on the RATS doing so, but then they have noting to lose having all 3 branches of gov't.

The senile thing was what I was going for. If a Republican made his age made a remark like that, they'd be talking about Alzheimers and how it was "time for him to go."
