The affection and loyalty Bush has shown to Barney speak volumes about the President's character. He loves his dogs and gains enjoyment just from watching them live out their normal (well as normal as you can get for dogs living in the White House) lives.
This is all quite a contrast to the previous President, Bill Clinton, who had two pets, Socks and Buddy, that were rarely seen or heard from, except when shuffled out for a strategic photo op. One wonders if Clinton could have even picked them out of a dog or cat lineup.
Then, witness the fate of the two Clinton pets. Socks ended up being adopted by another household, and poor Buddy got hit by a car while under the watch of disinterested Secret Service personnel -- the latest in the long line of untimely Clinton related deaths.....

And it's that genuineness and purity of heart that Americans have come to recognize and appreciate in George W. Bush...Unlike Clinton or Al Gore, Bush has cares and concerns that go beyond his career and his reputation. He is more than just a good leader. He is a good man.
Exactly!

Bush is that most ineresting of individuals. He never forgets a friend or an enemy. Of the two it is a lot better to be one of the former rather than one of the latter.

When Barney was due to attend a Kinky Freidman animal fundraiser (don't ask), Laura had to send a double in his place because Dubya so wanted the little furry guy home to greet him upon his return from a trip to Europe. How cute is this? Gals, please ping the rest of the Dosers!

Socks ended up being adopted by another household... That's generously put. Didn't he give Socks to Betty Currie? I hope she doesn't keep Socks under her bed with Clinton's other disposable gifts.

Spotty the Springer Spaniel was from the litter Barbara Bush's famous Millie had in the White House on March 17, 1989. Barney was born September 30, 2000 in New Jersey, and was a gift from then Gov. Christie Whitman (who owned Barney's mom, named Coors) to then Gov. and Mrs. Bush.

Took my kids over to whitehouse.gov to take a virtual tour of the White House. Lynne Cheney takes you on a tour of the VP Mansion, and her dog Dave, (I think that was his name)is under her feet the whole time. It is obvious that pet is well loved also.
