Jordan - Shurafaa' al-Urdun [Honorables of Jordan] - - Around 0715 local time on 28 Oct. 2002, a gunman opened fire on US Agency for International Development Executive Director Lawrence Foley, 62, in Amman as he was walking to his car to leave for work. Foley was hit eight times by rounds from a 7mm pistol in the head, chest and abdomen. He worked at the US Embassy in Amman. Apparently no one in the neighborhood heard any shots. The gunman is suspected of using a silencer. In a statement sent to Al-Quds Al-Arabi, Shurafaa' al-Urdun [Honorables of Jordan] claimed responsibility for the took responsibility for the assassination. The group said the killing was in protest against US support for Israel and the "bloodshed in Iraq and Afghanistan." The statement specifically referred to a new US law recognizing Jerusalem as Israel's capital. The destroyed vehicle was owned by Skopje resident Muzafer Haruni, a member of the NDP [National Democratic Party - PDK in Albanian], which is chaired by Kastriot Haxhirexha. Macedonia - Albanian National Army (ANA) - - On 1 Nov. 2002, the Albanian National Army (ANA) claimed responsibility for a 31 Oct. grenade attack in front of the Macedonian parliament. The group said in a statement that it was "determined without compromise to fight for an ethnically united Albania, a unique Albanian national state in the Balkans." Macedonia - Macedonian National Front (MNF) - - Between 31 Oct. and 4 Nov. 2002, the Macedonian National Front (MNF) claimed responsibility for a 31 Oct. grenade attack in front of the Macedonian parliament. The claim was made in a communique issued to the media. The group also threatened to kill President Boris Trajkovski, Prime Minister Branko Crvenkovski, former Prime Minister Ljubco Georgievski, and legislators of the ethnic Albanian Democratic Union for Integration (BDI). Nepal - - On 27 Oct. 2002, three explosive devices detonated in Kathmandu. The first blast occurred at the Sanchayakosh building at 1430 GMT inside a toilet in the open square of the building. The toilet's walls were completely destroyed by the blast. The blast shattered windowpanes in the surrounding shops. There were no injuries. The second blast occurred shortly after the first in Lainchaur behind the Dairy Development Corporation. Two people were injured. The third blast occurred at Jai Nepal at the parking lot at 0935 GMT.
