What really scared the crap out of us was seeing what Grandpa's '86 Winchester .50-110 did to a sparrow (and our shoulders)
I sure wish I knew what happened to that gun.

Living in NJ, I don't own a firearm because it's a pain the a$$ to get a permit, but back in the early 80's when I was in High School, my two best friends were active enthusiasts and target shooters (not hunters). I remember going with them to the range and being stunned by how loud and powerful firearms were. It taught me to respect and exercise care around firearms.
I remember that I had a girlfriend that was very anti-gun and deathly afraid of even being near a gun. After some convincing, she went with us to the range one Saturday, and was really scared...for a while.
To make a long story short, on the ride home I remember her saying "When can we go shoot again?"
