First the scare, then the yawn

Well, the worst is over. The Washington Post's three-part excerpt from the Washington Post's Bob Woodward book, "Bush at War, " (copyright Bob Woodward, Simon & Schuster), has been published -- and the Republic yet stands.

I suppose Woodward's works would be easier to take if he'd put the stuff he makes up in red print so the reader would know where reality is left off, and fantasy begins.

Woodward's book more aptly should be titled: "What I Shrewdly Saw, Brilliantly Thought and Nobly Did in the Bush Administration -- By Colin Powell and George Tenet, As Told to Bob Woodward." Not surprisingly, Powell and the CIA turn out to be the heroes of this story.

No surprise here either -- I only hope Blankley's advice applies to them, soon:

(not to worry, guys, there really is life after politics.)

Since Brit Hume has been hung-up on Woodward's book (he actually interviewed him last night) for the last two days (yawn), may he read this and return to reporting news we can use:

For most people around the country, the publication hoopla surrounding a Woodward expose book is barely noticed amidst the clamor of their busy lives. But here in Washington, this almost semi-annual event has become a tradition looked forward to by the cutthroat politicians, journalists, PR sharpers and lobbyists who make up the nation's political class -- much as little kids look forward to Halloween. A few unfortunates may inadvertently bite into a hidden razor blade, but for the rest of us, we just have a good scare and then go on with our unproductive, but prestigious and lucrative careers.

Benedict Arnold wasn't hanged. But other than that it's a good article.

A side note - in researching my family tree several years ago, I discovered that I am not only a distant cousin umpteen times removed from George Washington but also of Benedict Arnold.
