from what I understand, because he is an independent who caucuses with the minority party, Jeffords no longer has ANY committee assignments.

I'm thinking Vermont is about to experience a GOP-led punishment of biblical proportions.Special taxes on Maple Syrup, ending Dairy subsidies, and whatever those two senators held dear.

What do you expect from a guy who comes from a state famous for its sap?

I get the same thing: I go to post an article, do a reasonable search of FR, nothing shows up, post the article, and then get some "helpful" person telling me it was previously posted. I love FR, but the search capacity needs to be improved.

Well, let's think about this: If Jumpin' Jim were returned to the GOP fold, it would boost the GOP membership in the Senate to 52, further depressing the likelihood that a Lincoln Chaffee would bolt. Maybe they should take Jeffords back, but give him the chairmanship of "The Senate Select Committee on Support of the Buggywhip Industry," not something meaningful.

Poor Jim, he played the percentages and lost.
At least the people of Vermont now know that he never cared a hill of beans about them, it was all about Jim.
When GWB was elected, he looked at the historical data and assumed that the evil DEMS would regain control in two years and launched a coup on thier behalf in exchange for keeping his chairmanship.
Some who remember the past are easily resigned to defeat while others choose to learn from it.
The people of Vermont have my condolences

.............then get some "helpful" person telling me it was previously posted................. Hahahahahaha!
(Hold muh modem.......) Not that I would begrudge my fellow Freepers but theres a couple of guys that basically wait until 1:30 AM EST and then grab the whole updated Washington Times website and post 30-40 articles that end up getting lost and going unnoticed the next morning. THIS was one of them. It honestly didn't come up!

I've noticed that. When I post an article that someone "helpfully" tells me was posted earlier, it was usually posted 6 or so hours earlier in the day. Of course, by the time I get around to posting it, 1) "Search" doesn't reveal it, and 2) it is so hopelessly buried by all the subsequent posts that I figure that posting a second time for people in the Pacific Time Zone would be useful anyway, since folks like me aren't up reading FR at 2:00 in the morning and therefore would never have seen the original post. But still, I get grief for it.
