Inspired by another thread about the Massachusetts state motto, I think it is time for Virginia to dump her duplicity. We have 2 mottos ("The Old Dominion" and "Mother of Presidents") which we should whittle down to one so visiting Floridians will not be confused. So how about it ? Let's have some suggestions. Winner will be announced whenever this thread dies.

We could combine the two into one - The Mother of Dominion? (no, Pat Robertson would object). Or The Old Mother ? The Old Mother of Presidents ? I know there are those of you out there that could do better than my lame attempts.

In honor of Virginia's well-known sons:
"Strike the tent" here. Or
Pass over, and rest under the shade of the trees.

The Old Dominion and
Mother of Presidents are
NOT Virginia's "motto." They are nicknames given to the state.
Virginias motto, Sic Semper Tyrannis (Latin for "Thus Always to Tyrants"), appears on the Seal of the Commonwealth, as well as the State Flag.
Sorry to rain on your parade. My ancestors were here in the late 1600s. We don't like to change.

"Virginia: DC's Tit"
And North Carolina "The 'Shoe In The Road' State". For some reason, there is always a shoe in the road everywhere you go in NC.

A bit topical, but:
"Yes, tough guy, we have concealed carry and lots of guns but it doesn't help against snipers shooting from Chevy Caprice trunks."
Admittedly, it'd be tough to fit on license plates.
"Father of shall-issue CCW"
"Sportsmen for Warner" (It seemed to be the motto during the election, I sure saw enough signs like that)
"Virginia: Most executions East of the Mississippi"
"Liz Taylor is NOT our First Lady anymore"
"Independent cities, Independent minds"
"Home of the NRA"

My ancestors were here in the late 1600s. We don't like to change. Then why did they come here?

For some reason, there is always a shoe in the road everywhere you go in NC. It's no accident. It's a drug thing.

Did you finally get rid of that "Virginia is for lovers," thing? Always thought that was a little absurd, considering the name of the state.

LOL. Where do you drive?

Greensboro and Winston-Salem. Shoes all over the place.
And tires too. You see one tire at 8PM and by dawn, there will be 50. They are asexual.
To: AppyPappy
Asexual tires? You're buying me a new monitor, I'll never get the coke off

Over here in Raleigh, I guess we're able to keep our shoes on. Don't see a lot of those however I have seen several bumpers in the emergency lane of late. No cars, just the front bumpers

Did you finally get rid of that "Virginia is for lovers," thing? Nope. In fact they just redesigned the logo for the 25th year of use.
