NATO troops say they have detained a Bosnian Muslim for spying on their base.

SARAJEVO, Bosnia-Herzegovina - NATO (news - web sites)

NATO troops in Bosnia said Monday they have detained a Bosnian Muslim who was trying to spy on a U.S. base. An investigation revealed he also had an anti-tank weapon in his home.

U.S. troops, who are part of the NATO-led peacekeeping force and are based in Tuzla, in northeastern Bosnia, have been investigating Sabahudin Fijuljanin since Oct. 26 because they saw him "surveil" their personnel and installations, a statement from U.S. Eagle Base said Monday.

"In the course of questioning and a search of his premises, Fijuljanin was found to be in possession of an illegally held anti-tank weapon in his residence. He also admitted to previous surveillance of SFOR," the acronym of the international peace force, the written statement said.

Fijuljanin was in possession of numerous passports from Bosnia and Yugoslavia, the statement said.

Apparently Fijuljanin's Bosnian citizenship is also in doubt. Fijuljanin is originally a Muslim from the Yugoslav province of Sandzak but for years has lived in Bosnia, where he is married and has four children.

Fijuljanin remains in detention until further notice, the statement said.

About 17,000 international troops are serving in the peacekeeping mission in Bosnia. NATO deployed its troops here to keep the peace that ended the Bosnian 1992-1995 war.

Since the Sept. 11 attacks on the United States, NATO troops have increased security precautions worldwide, fearing terrorist attacks on troops in Bosnia.

As reported on StrategyPage.com: THE BALKANS: Spies for Allah

What he did is no different than what those 5 Algerians did in Kosovo. NATO let them after a bit too.

We are good and forgiving to our Islamic allies.
