Haifa Mayor Amram Mitzna is promising that if he forms the next government, no matter how many members of Knesset are in his coalition, and even if he has to rely on what's called "a non-Jewish majority," one of the first decisions of the new government would be to pull Israel out of Gaza. Mitzna said there is no need to wait for negotiations to evacuate all the settlements. Nor does he need the approval of Yasser Arafat, Hosni Mubarak, or even George W. Bush. |
That would be my campaign slogan if I ran against this guy.
If Mitzna gains power, we will see the exact same scenario play out as before; a vastly hyped up "Peace Process" will be used by the PA to get all they can, then they will attack with even more ferocity, killing even more innocent women and children, committing more and more outrageous atrocities, until they make normal life in Israel impossible, ... and the citizenship begins to flee. Once established as a trend, it will become a retreat, a flood of Israelis leaving the crumbling state of Israel, and then finally a new and final Diaspora.
This is the legacy the Western left and the Israeli Labor party will preside over, as it will be they that ultimately will have caused this disaster. To pretend that any other possibility is in the offing, is to reveal how little a person has been paying attention, to the real actions and intents of the Palestinian terrorists.
The Palestinian society has become impossible to deal with in a rational manner. It has become an evil society, despite the fact that some good people live there it is not worth all the trouble Israel is going through to deal with it.
IMHO, the best thing Israel can do, short of kicking the Palestinians out, is to simply decide what it can keep and defend, and what it can't, and draw the line there. It can try to be as generous as possible, but not necessarily. Such a scenario destroys almost every Palestinian grievance, leaving them with little politically acceptable justifications for continuing violence. And it sufficiently punishes them by taking permanent control of some of the land that they aspired to own. It may not be the best scenario for Israel, but it is probably the most practical.
Kicking the Palestinians out will be major trouble politically, economically and physically for Israel. Although, a scenario in which King Hussein opened the border for Palestinians to move into Jordan is possible. It might cause enough of the Palestinians to decide that living among the terrorists is not worth it... which in turn might make Israel's demographic problem disappear.
Arab Knesset Members in Israel should be given the same powers as we do to Reps. from D.C., Guam and American Samoa: their votes only count when there is already a clear majority, they cannot break a tie, and they have no vote in determining leadership positions. In addition, those areas contribute (except DC) to the popular vote only and not the electoral vote.
Similarly in Israel, the Arab vote can be stated, and can elect non-voting members, but should no longer determine whom the Israeli PM is nor be permitted to swing the majority bloc of the Knesset. This would solve a great deal, and would present the world with the true (Jewish) voice of Israel.
You seem to be confused on the facts. Arab turnout was extremely low for the Labor primaries, around 5%
And if you only look at the Jewish vote in the Bibi/Barak election, Bibi wins with under 51%, hardly a landslide.
The reports that fewer than one third of the Arab voters plan on voting in this election is very good news for the State of Israel.
