Actually here is what Winston said after his party was voted out of office after WW2 (which forced him to resign), and I'm quoting from memory so it may not be verbatim:

"Well, we just got done fighting a war to give the people the right to pick their own government, and now that the people have spoken, I'm going to take a bath and go to bed."

It may not be verbatim but that is basically what Winston Churchill had to say about the election (and he was voted back into office just a few years later).
