"...Remember the "Contract with America, Poohbah? Those lawmakers were elected because they convinced voters that they wouldn't act like normal Republicans, but instead would restore the nation to conservative values..."

You apparently don't.
The Historical Significance of the Contract With America
# 181 by Roscoe
**********************

Do you even read the stories you link to, Roscoe? Franklin Delano Roosevelt was a socialist; the very first paragraph of your story claims that the "Contract With America" was an attempt by Republicans to convince voters that they would restore the socialst policies of Roosevelt's "New Deal."

That's a lie, Roscoe. The Republicans were trying to convince voters that they would reverse the effects of socialist policies, not add new socialist policies to the mix. They also promised to reduce the size of "big" government. That's nowhere close to trying to emulate Roosevelt.

Of course, the socialist Republicans were lying, but they claimed to be against things like the "New Deal."

The quote from the first paragraph of your link-

"Big Government was consolidated in America in the First Hundred Days of the presidency of Franklin Delano Roosevelt. By promising that the House would enact the Contract With America in the First Hundred Days of the 104th Congress, Speaker Newt Gingrich deliberately invited the history books to compare the work of the House Republican leadership with the New Deal of FDR."

Reading comprehension problem or deliberate dishonesty?
