One reason we are no longer shy about occupying Iraq is that having 250,000 troops next to Iran with literally dozens of bases and airfields, land routes to allies, etc. is probably not going to improve the mullahs' digestion. A few months of that presence next to Iran will probably be enough to tip Iran into internal revolution.
